A central team of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) today visited Kishtwar to assess post earthquake situation and work out measures to prevent further loss of life and property in the district.
The team held detailed discussion with the district administration besides having a meeting with officials of Public Works Department, Power Development, Public Health Engineering, Rural Development and Revenue departments.
The team comprising scientists and professionals from IIT Madras and IIT Hyderabad visited the quake affected areas of Bera Bhata, Hudri, Hidyal and Tund in Kishtwar town and its periphery and assessed the damage caused by the recent earthquake, which shook the entire Chenab valley on May 1, officials said.
The NDMA team interacted with the people of these areas and stressed on the need of a long term planning and implementation of District Disaster Management Plan in the region, so that better and earthquake resistant buildings could be made to minimise the loss of life and property during any natural calamities in future, they said.
