Addressing an event here, Akhilesh termed the Samajwadi Party government's laptop distribution scheme as the best example for implementation of a 'sawajwadi' (socialist) system in the society and added that the children of poor and farmers in villages were getting benefit out of it.
Saying that his party had been dubbed as "anti-English" and "anti-computer", he said it was his government that had distributed laptops in the state at such a large scale and through this it had promoted samajwad (socialism).
Giving the example of Mahatma Gandhi, he said to change the society, a person must bring change within himself.
"To fight against ills in the society people should adopt the ideology of Gandhiji and work for harmony, brotherhood and secularism.
"...To bring about change and to take the society forward education plays an important role. Therefore, the government is making efforts to not only improve the quality of education but to also ensure cent per cent people receive it," he said.
Uttar Pradesh is the lone state where metro rail service project has been launched in three cities, he said.
Referring to 108 Samajwadi Swasthya Sewa and 102 National Ambulance Service of his government, Akhilesh said these services have provided relief to lakhs of people.
"Often it is said that India is the biggest market. Similarly, UP was the biggest market in the country, therefore it should not be overlooked at any level," he said.
He released two books 'Mandal Commission Report - V P Mandal' and 'Shri Krishna Karmayan' on the occasion.
