Neeraj Bawana to face trial for organised crime syndicate

Alleged gangster Neeraj Bawana and three others were today directed to be put on trial by a city court for allegedly running an organised crime syndicate in the Delhi-NCR region.
Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Pandit ordered framing of charge under section 3 (punishment for organised crime) of the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against accused -- Bawana, his elder brother Pankaj Sehrawat, Rahul Dabas and Naveen Dabas.
The court fixed November 18 for formally framing charges against the accused persons, with the judge saying that prima facie there was enough evidence to put them on trial.
The order was passed in a case in which a charge sheet was filed by Special Cell of Delhi Police against ten persons, including Bawana, his brother and former MLA Rambeer Shokeen, in September last year.

The court discharged five other accused -- Sunil Rathi, Amit Malik alias Bhura, Naveen Hooda, Deepak Dabas and Gurpreet Singh -- due to lack of evidence against them.
In the charge sheet, the agency has described Bawana as "a symbol of lawlessness" and "kingpin" of the racket, adding that Shokeen, who is absconding, was the "political face" of the syndicate as he was found using the clout of these criminals to contest MLA election to "further his political ambitions and gaining pecuniary benefits".
Police had said that Neeraj Sehrawat alias Neeraj Bawana belonged to a lower middle class family but enjoyed a lavish lifestyle from the money generated through the syndicate.
