New ART centre to come up in Haryana

A new antiretroviral treatment centre will be set up at Agroha Medical College in Haryana in the current financial year to suppress the spread of HIV virus.
While informing this, additional project director, Haryana State AIDS Control Society, Dr Vijay Garg said today, "17 ART centres in different districts are functioning so that patients can get treatment at their doorsteps."
"Fifty new integrated counselling and testing centres to detect and diagnose the disease will also be set up during this financial year," Neelam P Kasni, project director, Haryana State AIDS Control Society, said while launching the 'Van Condom Social Marketing Programme' at Panchkula, near here.

ART is a combination therapy of three or more antiretroviral drugs that suppress the HIV virus.
She said that the percentage of HIV infection and AIDS in female sex workers have considerably decreased in Haryana from 1.19 per cent to 0.58 per cent.
Kasmi added said that the percentage of infection found in those who take drugs through injection has also reduced to 0.1 per cent while the high risk zone infection in the state has also reduced from 5.8 per cent to 0.8 per cent.
