If you are imprisoned, you are marginalised than the marginalised, Delhi High Court Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal today said while inaugurating a legal assistance desk at the Dwarka district court complex here.
The Acting Chief Justice has launched a series of initiatives at the district court complex which would be of assistance to litigants, advocates and staff here.
Justice Mittal inaugurated a water treatment plant and a solar power plant in the court complex which aims to encourage optimum use of water and to save energy.
"Trees and plants will be able to nurture the environment. We strive to ensure a positive footprint instead of leaving a carbon footprint," she said.
Justice Mittal, who is also the Executive Chairperson of of Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA), launched help desks to assist litigants who approach courts for disposal of traffic challans.
"If you are imprisoned for sometime for something, you become marginalised than the marginalised. Society forgets you. If you are poor, the situation is even more grim.
"It is extremely important for the convicts or the jail inmates to be connected with their lawyers, " she said while launching the legal assistance desk to aid the inmates or the convicts who are produced before the court from custody.
High court judge, Justice Najmi Waziri praised the efforts of the district court to open a creche in the complex.
"Creche is a small room but a huge space for a working mother. The comfort of a mother knowing that her child is safe at her work place is a great step towards women empowerment, he said.
Besides him, high court judge, Justice I S Mehta and other judges of the Dwarka district court also were present during the function.
