A petition was moved in Delhi High Court today seeking a CBI probe into "fraudulent" appointments of candidates suffering from eye-defects and other ailments at the post of drivers in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).
The petition came up for hearing before a bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana.
Petitioner NGO 'Azaad Dasta, Sankalp Hamara' sought a probe against senior officials for the "corrupt practices" and also into the entire appointment process of drivers in during 2008-2009, where the candidates who were "medically unfit" or possessed fake driving licences were recruited as drivers by the DTC.
The petition claimed of the 4,415 drivers recruited in 2008-09, DTC Medical Board found 601 candidates suffering from eye defects and 254 candidates suffering from other physical disabilities/ailments.
"The DTC management took further decision to get re-medical examine at Guru Nanak Eye Centre and Rao Tula Ram Hospitals and those candidates who were found medically unfit by earlier DTC Medical Board were also declared fit and were given jobs," it said.
The petition said DTC buses are often involved in road accidents which can be attributed to medically unfit people, those with fake licences being appointed as drivers.
The bench has posted the matter for hearing on March 19 while also asking the NGO to make all the persons who have gained illegal appointment a party to the matter.
