The company had posted a net profit of Rs 259.35 crore in the same period last year, NHPC said in a regulatory filing to stock exchanges.
The company's profit from operations before income and finance costs stood at Rs 217.41 crore as against Rs 329.43 crore in the corresponding period last fiscal.
Total income rose to Rs 1,177.04 crore from Rs 1,144.63 crore in the year ago period.
NHPC is the country's largest hydro power producer with 6,507 MW capacity and 3,290 MW under construction.
