"Today we have shut the 160 MW Teesta Low Dam IV unit after a pro-Gorkhaland mob agitated at the plant. Yesterday, we had to stop operations of the 132 MW Teesta Low Dam III at Ramdi as a precaution after over than 600 people gheraoed the site," a NHPC official told PTI today.
NHPC has apprised the West Bengal power secretary of the situation.
"We had already written to the state power secretary, the chief secretary and Darjeeling district magistrate to beef up security at the NHPC installations in Darjeeling district. Today we met the power secretary and sought help," the official said.
According to official sources, the state government has assured to beef up security and at the same time pointed to the insufficient central security forces in the Hills.
