National Human Rights Commission today issued a notice to the police authorities of Rajasthan's Alwar district in connection with an alleged gang-rape inside a police station.
According to an NHRC statement, the notice has been served to the Superintendent of Police, Alwar. He has been given three week's time to respond.
The notice was issued after the Commission took suo motu cognisance of a media report that a woman was gang-raped by policemen in Chaupanki police station at Alwar.
NHRC has observed that the contents of the press report, published on December 24, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim, by those whose duty is to protect her human rights.
Reportedly, the victim and her relative had gone to the police station lodge a complaint regarding a quarrel. While the relative was made to sit outside, the In-charge of the police station and two constables allegedly gang-raped the woman on December 15.
