Minaj tweeted, "Thank you American Idol for a life changing experience! Wouldn't trade it for the world! Time to focus on the Music!!! (sic)."
Her fellow judge, Carey, confirmed her departure from the show just before Minaj broke her news. Carey cited the success of her latest single 'Beautiful' and the consequent world tour as her reasons for quitting, reported Hollywood Life.
"With global success of beautiful @MariahCarey confirms world tour and says goodbye 2 Idol," read Carey's tweet.
"The rest of this year is jam-packed with Mariah putting the finishing touches on her much anticipated forthcoming album, headlining the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular and appearing in Lee Daniels's 'The Butler', opening in August," her representative told People magazine.
Randy Jackson, the third judge of the show, has also quit. This leaves Keith Urban as the only remaining judge.
