Nifty up by 17.90 pts, RIL spurts

Markets cheered excellent Q3 results by Petrochem major Reliance Industries which were declared after trading hours on Friday. The company was a star performer today with its shares spurting by 2.19 per cent to close at Rs 920.

Key indices in Germany, France and UK opened on a firm note that bolstered the sentiment even as Asian stocks closed mixed with downward bias.

The 50-issue Nifty moved in a narrow range of 6,094.35 and 6,065.10 before concluding at 6,082.30, up 17.90 points or 0.30 per cent

Kishor Ostwal, CMD, CNI Research said,"Nifty futures closed at 6,097 after crossing 6,100 for the first time after two years. RIL after good results as expected tested Rs 951 but corrected to 919 on profit booking. We see Nifty futures resistance at 6,200 and support at 6,000."

Other top four gainers from the Nifty were Reliance Infra (4.02 pct), BHEL (2.47 pct), L&T (1.96 pct) and Bharti Airtel (1.92 pct) while five losers were DLF (2.42 pct), NTPC (1.76 pct), Sun Pharma (1.71 pct), Tata Motors (1.61 pct) and TCS (1.55 pct).

Turnover in cash segment dropped to Rs 11,588.39 crore from Rs 14,758.81 crore last Friday. A total of 6,116.72 lakh shares changed hands in 54,12,226 trades. The market capitalisation stood at Rs 69,59,030 crore.
