Navaratna-public sector sector Neyveli Lignite Corporation has plans to increase the lignite mining capacity from the present 30.60 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) to 49 MTPA, a top company official said here today.
"NLC has potential future plans to achieve a lignite mining capacity to 49.00 MTPA compared to a present capacity of 30.60 MTPA...," NLC Chairman and Managing Director B Surender Mohan said at the 59th Raising Day function here.
"NLC will have a total generating capacity of about 12,221 MW against the present capacity of 2,990MW...," an NLC release quoted him as having said.
He said the commencement of mining operation pushed industrial development in the region and NLC had become a fore runner among public sector companies in "lignite mining".
The 59th Raising Day marks the beginning of operations in Neyveli Lignite Corporation by the late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on May 20, 1957.
