A strong plea for justice to nearly four lakh undertrials languishing in various jails in the country from weeks to years was made by a CPI(M) member in the Lok Sabha today.
"There are about four lakh prisoners who are waiting for their trial in various jails in various States. There is no justification on the part of the government or the judiciary to put them in jails for a long time without any trial", P Karunakaran said.
Raising the issue in Zero Hour, he said due to the failure of the Government and the Judiciary the innocent people have been punished for a long time and it was high time the issue is addressed.
