Allaying apprehensions about the displacement of Punjabi farmers settled in Haryana, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said his government was committed to protecting their interests and assured they will not be evicted from their lands.
"None of the Punjabi farmers will be denied his right of cultivation and no farmers would be evicted," said the chief minister.
Ruling Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab had recently urged Haryana to frame a policy, so that lands given to the farmers of Punjab in the state in 1951 on a lease of 99 years, is not taken back.
Today, Hooda assured that Haryana government was committed to protect the interests of farmers in Haryana who were apprehending displacement.
He was reacting to the charge of Akalis that Punjabi Sikh farmers are likely to face eviction from Haryana.
Hooda also claimed that per capita income of Haryana was much more than Punjab's per capita income.
Haryana, he said, was on the path of progress and its financial condition was sound.
He was speaking after the cremation of freedom fighter Captain Ranjit Singh at Daroli Bhai village.
Hooda also reiterated his claim over Chandigarh.
Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, has been vexed issue with both states staking claim over it time and again.
He also said that Haryana will continue its struggle over river waters issue.
The chief minister was confident that the matter of share of river waters has been lying with the Apex court and Haryana will be given justice by the court.
The two states had since long been fighting over share of river waters.
