Nomination papers for all 3 RS candidates found valid

The nomination papers of three candidates - Ripun Borah, Ranee Narah and Mahavir Prasad Jain - for the two Rajya Sabha seats from Assam falling vacant next month, were found valid today, an Assembly spokesperson said.
Bora, Congress' first preference candidate and Narah second preference had yesterday filed their nomination papers from the Congress before the Assam Legislative Assembly's Principal Secretary M K Deka.
Jain has filed his nomination papers with the support of the 10 Bodoland People's Front (BPF) MLAs.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has claimed that both the candidates will sail through as the Congress enjoys an absolute majority in the state assembly with more than 80 MLAs to vote for the party nominees.

The Congress currently has 69 MLAs in the 126-member house with nine of its former members, who joined the BJP last year, disqualified from the assembly and another resigned from the House after joining the saffron party.
Elections to the Rajya Sabha was necessitated following the scheduled retirement of two Congress members Naznin Faruque and Pankaj Bora on April two next.
Withdrawal of nomination papers is on March 14 and polling will be held on March 21.
