The Angami Students' Union (ASU), the apex students' body of Kohima, today said it started the 'Non-local verification drive' here to check inflow of illegal migrants.
"Sensing the impediment and threat posed to our ethnicity by the menace of unchecked immigrations from the bordering states and countries particularly Bangladesh, ASU has initiated to check the overwhelming influx of illegal immigrants and Inner Line Permit (ILP) defaulters in the form of 'Non-Local Verification drive'," a release by ASU said.
The ASU urged the people of Kohima District to support the cause "to preserve and protect our society from the looming threats".
ASU also asked all non-locals to carry documents like photocopies of their ILP card, identity proof, two passport photos, workplace permit and trade-license for business communities.
The month long verification drive will continue till July 10, the release said.
