Not received recommendation on Judge Patel's transfer: Prasad

The government today said it had not received any recommendation from the Supreme Court collegium on transferring Justice Jayant Patel, who reportedly resigned after not being made chief justice, from Karnataka to Allahabad.
Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad refused to comment on the controversy surrounding Justice Patel's resignation but said the Centre had not received any recommendation regarding his transfer.
"I have no comments to offer except to say that no proposal of his transfer has been received by us (from the collegium)," he told reporters when his comments were sought on the issue.
Patel was the acting chief justice of the Gujarat High Court before being shifted to the Karnataka High Court in February 2016.

The judge was reportedly unhappy that he was not made the chief justice of any court despite his seniority. The resignation on Monday came amid a reported decision of the SC collegium to transfer him to the Allahabad high court.
The Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association has said it will file "appropriate legal proceedings" before the Supreme Court against the transfer of Justice Patel.
Patel was in the limelight after he ordered a CBI probe into the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case in Gujarat when Narendra Modi was the chief minister of the state.
