"The estimates of GDP and employment are released by the Central Statistical Office (CSO) and NSS, respectively, of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
"As per the NSS survey results for the year 2009-10 and 2011-12, employment increased from 46.5 crore to 47.4 crore, registering an annual growth rate of 0.5 per cent, and GDP grew by 7.8 per cent during the same period," Minister of State for Labour, Vishnu Deo Sai, told Lok Sabha in a written reply.
To improve exchange of employment-related information in the labour market, the government has decided to convert the employment exchanges into career centres in collaboration with state governments for providing counselling to students and job-seekers along with other employment-related assistance, Sai added.
