NSUI to raise issue of accomodation and discrimination

With an aim to win DUSU elections, National Students' Union of India (NSUI) will raise the issue of right to accomodation for students and racial discrimination.
NSUI today released its manifesto for DUSU election, which are scheduled to be held on September 12, promising to make strong voice of students.
Highlighting its poll agenda, NSUI national president Roji M John said that the biggest issues were that of accomodation for students and racial discrimation especially against those from the north-east.
"DU has about 95 acre of barren land. NSUI wants DU administration to use this land for building more hostels. Being directly linked to women's safety, this is the biggest issue for this DUSU elections," John told reporters here.

John also said that student body had received more than 10,000 missed calls in support of accomodation being made the major agenda.
Besides hostel accomodation, provision of course curriculum in Hindi, re-evaluation and re-assessment of answers, a special chance for final year students failing in one or more papers, uniform admission rules and a student representative in governing body are among the issues NSUI has included in its manifesto.

Speaking on the issues of water, the NSUI president added, "There is water problem in some of the colleges including the Law Faculty and we had protested against that but I agree it wasn't solved appropriately."

NSUI national spokesperson Amrish Ranjan Pandey also said candidates for the DUSU polls would be declared outside the Arts Faculty tomorrow.
Pandey alleged that the university administration was trying to cancel the nominations of its candidates under pressure from the BJP-led Central Government.
"This has happened in Laxmibai College which was holding elections for the first time after 22 years where 106 nominations were cancelled without any reason yesterday. Only nominations of ABVP candidates have been accepted while all others rejected," Pandey added.
Meanwhile, Bharat Chaudhary, a former member of the ABVP who has held posts like DU North Campus Incharge in the organisation joined the NSUI.
