Omar appeals for donations to CM's flood relief fund

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today urged all, especially MPs, legislators and employees of the state to donate as much as they can for those affected by the floods to the J&K Chief Minister's Flood Relief Fund.

At a high level meeting here to review the latest situation, Omar expressed gratitude to Governor N N Vohra for donating his one month's salary in the Fund and urged all to donate as much as they can.

Omar also announced Rs 1 lakh donation out of his salary to the Flood Relief Fund.

He said MPs and legislators can also earmark funds out of their MPLAD funds and CDF for the restoration of flood hit infrastructure and other works.

The Chief Minister in his appeal to government employees, business community and well-off people, asked them to donate wholeheartedly into the account: J&K Chief Minister's Flood Relief Fund Account No. 0110040100001275 (IFSC - JAKAO) of Jammu and Kashmir Bank Limited.

At the meeting, the Chief Minister was apprised about the status of supply of essential commodities including ration, functioning of health institutions, supply of medicines, removal of garbage from roads and streets.

He laid thrust on intensifying dewatering of submerged areas in Srinagar city. He also approved procurement of high density and heavy discharging dewatering pumps for the purpose. Each pump of this make is capable of dewatering 18,000 to 20,000 liters of water per minute.

The meeting was attended by members of Council of Ministers, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Principal Secretaries, Commissioner Secretaries and various Administrative Secretaries and senior officers.
