"After successful functioning of the kidney and autologous bone marrow transplantation units in SKIMS during the last two years, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah yesterday approved an liver transplantation unit for the Institute," an official spokesman said here today.
Omar gave nod to the proposal at the 40th Governing Body meeting of SKIMS here and approved the yearly grant of Rs one crore for placement of trained staff for making the unit functional, the spokesman said.
The chief minister is keen to see SKIMS emerging as one of the leading referral hospitals in the country so that the people from the state do not need to visit outside for specialised treatments, the spokesman said.
The chief minister also emphasised the consolidation and placement of staff in rural health centres and implementation of flagship programmes in the health sector to ensure better medicare coverage to the people across the state, he added.
