One dead, 47 hurt as bus overturns in Patan district

A 45-year-old woman was killed and 47 others were injured, eight of them seriously, after their bus overturned on Ahmedabad-Palanpur highway near Siddhpur town in Patan district today, police said.
The mishap occurred when the driver of the private luxury bus lost control over the wheel and rammed the vehicle into a structure located on road at Kakosi village circle near Siddhpur town," said inspector J B Pandit of Siddhpur police station.
Prima facie investigation revealed there was no light at the roundabout which led to the mishap, as the driver could not see the structure on the cross-road, he said.

The bus, which was on its way to Surat from Nagor district of Rajasthan, suffered extensive damage in the incident and its roof split into two parts due to the impact.
Eight persons who sustained serious injuries were taken to Ahmedabad civil hospital, while others in Siddhpur and Dharpur hospitals of Patan district, he said.
The lone victim has been identified as Chandaben Seeburam Chowkidar.
