One person died and nine others sustained injuries on Tuesday after the autorickshaw in which they were travelling fell into a five-feet-deep pit in Bhadohi district of Uttar Pradesh, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Gena Devi (68) and her body has been sent for post-mortem, they said.
The accident took place in Lakhno village when a group of elderly women was going for Vindhyachal 'darshan' on the occasion of Kartik Poornima.
According to police, the autorickshaw in which the devotees were travelling lost its balance while trying to dodge a speeding motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.
Police have taken the autorickshaw into its custody and a hunt is on for the driver who fled from the spot, they said.
