The band, consisting of Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne, were the first act to take to the main stage on Glasgow Green after arriving via private jet, reported Digital Spy.
They kicked off their seven-song set with debut single 'What Makes You Beautiful', before moving on to play hits such as 'Best Song Ever' and current single 'You and I'.
However, many fans complained on Twitter of missing the set, as thousands of festival-goers were still queuing outside the gates.
The band will now return to Ireland to play Croke Park as part of their 'Where We Are' stadium tour.
