One killed, four injured as train hits car at level crossing

One person was killed and four others including a newly married couple were critically injured when the car in which they were travelling was hit by a train at an unmanned railway crossing in Siwan district today, police said.

The incident took place in Mofussil police station area of the district where the Thawe-Siwan passenger crashed into the car killing its driver Mohd Yasin on the spot, Additional Superintendent of Police Kantesh Kumar Mishra said.

He said four other occupants of the car - including the newly married couple - have been referred to a hospital in Gorakhpur for treatment.

The groom's family had arrived from Kolkata and after the marriage ceremony, which took place in the neighbouring district of Gopalganj, they were on their way back, the Additional SP said.
