The labourers had gone into the well at Batpore village in Handwara area of north Kashmir district, but none of them came out even after a long time, a police spokesman said.
He said some locals then raised the alarm and a joint team of police and Fire and Emergency Service was called in. The team rescued the labourers from the well, but they were unconscious, the spokesman said.
They were taken to a hospital in Handwara, where one of them, Fayaz Ahmad Hajam, was declared dead, the spokesman said. Hajam was a resident of Batkoot.
