During search operations after the explosion last night, 30-40 live bombs were found from under a culvert, the police said.
On hearing a deafening noise, villagers rushed out to find smoke billowing out of the premises of the local Mohammedan Sporting Club and the body of 60-year-old Lalu Sheikh lying nearby.
Additional SP Raj Narayan Mukhopadhyay and Katwa Sub Divisional Police Officer Sachin Makkar rushed to the spot, cordoned off the village and carried out extensive search operations.
