A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired here today by Commissioner and Secretary of Information and Public Relations department Santanu Thakur, an official release said here.
Director of Information and Public Relations Ranjit Gogoi stated an amount of Rs 12,43,427 was available as on date as interest from the Corpus Fund.
After detailed discussion, it was resolved to extend the one time financial assistance to eight ailing journalists of the state.
The journalists include Lalit Sarma, Girindra Kumar Karjee, Ashok Kumar Das, Paban Hazarika, Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Jadumoni Saikia, Smritirekha Patowary and Achyut Bhagawati, he release said.
