Online registration of First Information Reports (FIR) against persons involved in power theft is gaining momentum in Haryana, an official of the power utilities said today.
"As many as 4,321 FIRs have been registered by irrigation and power police stations since January," chairman and managing director, UHBVN and DHBVN, Devender Singh said today.
2,255 FIRs have been registered in the month of July alone, which is more than 50 per cent of FIRs registered in the past seven months, he said.
Discoms plan to provide 1,000 laptops and printers to supervisory staff for on-spot action and a copy of checking report and the assessed amount will be given to defaulting consumers immediately after detection, he informed.
"Discoms will conduct special checking of petrol pumps, shopping malls, theatres, hospitals and other high value consumers. A statewide campaign has been planned to detect cases of theft of electricity," he said.
Additional Director General of Police, Mohinder Lal said prompt registration of cases of power theft will be ensured by designated police stations and both the police and power department will jointly crack down to unearth cases of power thefts.
