Operator of water tank found dead

The operator of a water tank at Melakottai Village in the district, where about 200 residents became ill after consuming water from the tank last week, was found dead hanging today, police said.
32-year-old Vellaichamy was found dead hanging by the public of the village, who informed the police.
Local people blocked the road traffic for some time on the Aalangudi-Pudukottai main road demanding arrest of those responsible for the death of Vellaichamy.
The residents were hospitalised after drinking water mixed with pesticide granules from the tank on August 17.
The people also demanded arrest of those who poisoned the tank with pesticide granule, police said.
