Opposition legislators in Bihar on Thursday met Governor Lalji Tandon and submitted a memorandum demanding the dismissal of Nitish Kumar government over its "failure" to control law and order in the state.
Members of both Houses of the bicameral legislature, led by Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Tejashwi Yadav, staged a march from the Assembly premises to the Raj Bhavan, located about a kilometre away, and submitted the memorandum.
"The Supreme Court's observations on November 28 with respect to the Muzaffarpur shelter home sex scandal has established that the government in the state has lost its credibility," the memorandum read.
Alarmed over lapses in investigations into sexual abuse of inmates at shelter homes in other districts of the state, the apex court on Wednesday ordered that the probe into all these care units be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which is handling the Muzaffarpur shelter home scandal.
"His Excellency shared our concern over the happenings at shelter homes where minor girls and boys are lodged. He has assured us that he would look into the matter", Yadav told reporters after meeting the governor.
Uproar over deterioration in law and order, especially in the light of the shelter home sex scandal, has led to stalling of proceedings in both Houses of the state legislature in the current session, which commenced on Monday and is scheduled to conclude on Friday.
