The J&K government transferred 9,479 acres of land to Jammu Development Authority for development since 1973 and out of which 6,818 acres of land has not been demarcated, Minister of State for Housing & Urban Development Asiea Naqash told told the Legislative Assembly here.
Replying to a question by BJP member Sat Paul Sharma, she said that total land demarcated by JDA since 1973 is only 2,245 acres and out which 330 acres has been encroached.
However, as compared to massive encroachment of land in Jammu belonging to JDA, only over 18 acres of land in Srinagar is under encroachment despite militancy.
Replying to a question by Sharma, Naqash said 3,884 kanals (485 acres) of JDA land has been retrieved till date out of the encroached 12,083 kanals (1510 acres) in Jammu.
The authorities are making concerted efforts to retrieve the encroached land of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) and Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) by holding regular anti-encroachment drives with the help of police, she added.
"A substantial portion of encroached land is under litigation in various courts and the authorities are vigorously pursuing the cases," the minister said, adding that there 4,245 cases pending in the department for disposal.
The minister also gave details of pendency of cases in various courts relating to the JDA/SDA land.
