Over 2.22 l cases pending in JK High Court and its subordinate

Over 2.22 lakh criminal and civil cases were pending in Jammu and Kashmir High Court and other subordinate courts in the state as onDecember 31, last year, Minister for Law and Justice Abdul Haq Khan said today.
In a written reply to a question by PDP MLA Mohammad Ashraf Mir in the Legislative Assembly, Khan said 62,040 cases were pending in the High Court as on December 31, 2017, while the number of pendency in subordinate courts stands at 1,60,154.
The pendency included 56,112 criminal and 5,928 civil cases in high court, while 1,08,118 civil and 52,036 criminal cases in subordinate courts, he said.

A total of 11,250 cases 9,589 criminal and 1,661 civil
were instituted in the high court with effect from April 1 to December 1, 2017, while 98,896 cases (21,788 criminal and 77,108 civil) were instituted during the same period.
However, he said the high court disposed off 9,603 cases (8,137 criminal and 1,466 civil), while the subordinate courts disposed off 78,496 cases (22,050 criminal and 56,446 civil) from April to December 1, 2017.
The minister said 33,743 cases are pending in high courts and lower courts pertaining to various government departments, while 6,812 such cases were disposed off.
