"Over Rs 2.50 crore were spent on providing mid-day meal during 2012-13 by utilising food grains worth Rs 1.47 crore supplied by the government," officials said during a review meeting presided over by District Development Commissioner, Jammu, A K Sahu.
The meeting was informed that the flagship scheme was under implementation in 1,477 government schools having an enrolment of 58,104 students of Primary and Upper Primary classes, an official spokesman said here.
Sahu asked the Zonal Education Officers to organise training sessions for the cooks to educate them about the hygienic preparation and serving of meals to the students.
"The cooked meal should be tasted by the Head Master and incharge teacher before serving it to the students," he added.
