During his visit to Corps Headquarters here, Gen Sharif said the operation would remain across the board and indiscriminate, and will continue till its logical conclusion.
"We will continue to work with people and the provincial government to finish all mafias," said the army chief.
Gen Sharif said the Karachi operation is bringing relief in terms of a decrease in target killings and extortion, Military spokesman Major Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa tweeted.
He said peace in Karachi is a priority to revive economic vibrancy and well-being of the people.
Gen Sharif expressed concern over the recent killing of right activist Sabeen Mahmud and said the pattern of murder "indicated a design that needs to be checked".
He directed intelligence agencies and Rangers to trace out, apprehend and expose the perpetrators.
Paramilitary Rangers briefed him on the ongoing operation in the city to create peace.
Gen Sharif commended law enforcement agencies and expressed satisfaction over the intelligence input and progress of operation in the city.
Meanwhile, in another target killing in the city, unidentified gunmen today shot dead an assistant professor of the Karachi University's Mass Communication department.
According to police officials Dr Syed Wahidur Rahman, also known as Yasir Rizvi, was shot at least five times by four men on motorcycles in the Dastagir area.
Rehman, 42, received bullet wounds in the face, head and chest while returning home in his car.
There were reports that Rehman could be linked to organising a session at the University on Balochistan. This is the fourth high-profile target killing this month.
