Pakistan's Interior Minister today directed police here to form a Quick Response Force of high-trained skilled marksmen to respond to emergency situations effectively and timely.
Chairing a high-level meeting related to security here, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan directed Islamabad Police to improve security of the capital.
The meeting reviewed the lone gunman incident in the capital and other security matters.
The stand-off with the lone gunman had led to criticism of the government and the police.
Nisar also directed Islamabad Police to further tighten the security at all entry and exit points of the capital.
The Minister advised the officials to implement an integrated communication system and clearly define SOPS (Standard Operating Procedures) within a week's time.
The minister desired improvement in the checkpoints, reduction in the working hours from 12 to 6 hours, better discipline, alertness and enhanced level of security.
He also issued directives for SP-level coordination at sensitive checkpoints.
Khan assured the officials of full monetary support and facilitation from the headquarters concerned on essential technical requirements of Islamabad Police and gave them one week to spell those out.
