After serving nearly fourteen years of imprisonment on terrorism charges in the US, a Pakistani national now faces deportation to his native country, officials said.
Native Pakistani Imran Farooq Mandhai was sentenced to 14 years in prison after his arrest in February 2002 on charges of plotting bomb attacks on electrical power substations and a National Guard armory.
On completion of his sentencing, he was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents for removal (deportation) proceedings on March 9.
"Imran Farooq Mandhai was transferred to ICE custody March 9, 2015 from the Bureau of Prisons after completing his federal prison sentence.
He will remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings," an ICE spokesman said.
At the time of his arrest, Mandhai lived in Florida and attended the Darul Uloom Institute mosque in Pembroke Pines.
It is the same mosque where al-Qaida notable and Mandhai associate Adnan el-Shukrijumah sought spiritual solace.
