Pakistan today expressed concern over North Korea's claim of carrying out its first hydrogen bomb test, saying it 'opposes any action which is detrimental to peace and stability in the region'.
North Korea shocked the world by conducting the test on January 6 amidst global concerns over the country objectives about the timing of the test.
Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement that Pakistan has noted, with deep concern, the reports about the nuclear test.
"We have consistently supported a nuclear weapons free Korean Peninsula as agreed by all parties," it said.
The Foreign Office said Pakistan strongly believes that all countries should comply with their respective international obligations.
"We oppose any action which is detrimental to peace and stability in the region and militates against the prospects of reaching a solution to the issue in the framework of the Six Party Talks," it said.
The surprise test was personally ordered by North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and came just two days before his birthday.
If confirmed, the test would mark another big step toward Pyongyang's goal of building a warhead that can be mounted on a missile capable of reaching the US mainland.
