Aboobacker Palliyalil from Kerala, who was a newspaper vendor at the time of accident, was hit by a car speeding in the wrong direction in Ajman in September 2013 that fractured his vertebrae (spine) and left him paralysed below the neck.
A year and a half after the accident, a UAE court has awarded him 1.5 million dirham (2,55,21,013) in compensation, Khaleej Times reported.
"We were just married for three months when Aboobacker travelled back to Dubai and was injured in the accident. Now my husband cannot even speak well... Sometimes his mind is not stable and he is dependant on me and his family members," Palliyalil's wife Safna was quoted as saying by the paper.
According to Safna, the money may not bring back the couple's lost dreams but will at least cover his medical treatment.
