Pb election office seeks weekly progress report on law & order

Punjab State Election Commission has asked the police to submit weekly progress report with regard to implementation of action plan on the law and order situation in the poll-bound state.
Besides, directions have also been issued to other departments including state excise and narcotics control bureau to submit their action-taken report on plan prepared for preventing misuse of drugs and liquor.
"The concerned department has been asked to submit weekly progress report on the implementation of action plan prepared on the law and order in the state," said a senior official of the state election office today.
Earlier, the state election office had asked Punjab police to nab all the proclaimed offenders (POs), gangsters and bail jumpers as early as possible in view of the assembly elections in the state.

In an action plan submitted to it, the state police had said it was taking several steps including to review of gangsters, POs at police station levels, collecting and generating intelligence to arrest criminals, checking money flow to gangs operating in the state, taking action with regard to disposing of benami properties of gangsters, avoid giving parole to criminals till elections etc, the official said.
Notably, Punjab police faced major embarrassment when a group of armed men stormed high security Nabha jail last week in Patiala and managed to free six prisoners including two militants.

To prevent supply of drugs, the Narcotics Control Bureau in its action plan had proposed to have check posts at inter-state borders, sharing information and intelligence with border states, freezing properties of drug smugglers etc, the official said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena will be on two-day visit to Punjab tomorrow to review the preparations made by the state election machinery for the forthcoming state elections.
The Deputy Election Commissioner will visit Bathinda, Ludhiana, Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts and meet officials and representatives of political parties, the official said.
