Opposition PDP today came out in support of agitating Patwaris (Revenue officials), and asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to fulfil their genuine demands at the earliest.
"People are suffering because of the indefinite strike of Patwaris. The entire revenue work all over the state came to standstill. The government must fulfil all their genuine demands at the earliest," PDP district vice president, Vikram Singh, told reporters here today.
It was unfortunate that the government despite agreeing to settle the issues of Patwaris earlier was not paying any heed to their demands and forcing the people to suffer, he said.
The state-wide strike by Patwaris today entered its 38th day.
The officials are protesting in support of their demands, including the removal of pay anomaly and its retrospective effect from the implementation of sixth pay Commission recommendation.
The striking employees, under the banner of All Jammu and Kashmir Patwari Association (AJKPA), today protested outside the District Commissioner's office and reiterated their
demand to solve the anomaly.
"We just want that the pay anomaly that exists between the new and old Patwaris should be removed, but government is not showing any concern," said one of the protesting Patwaris.
Meanwhile, expressing concern over the problems being faced by the public on account of the ongoing strike, BJP State President Jugal Kishore Sharma said that the government should meet the genuine demands of revenue officials.
