Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national president and MP Poonam Mahajan today said that contributions of people from Bihar and UP are equal to that of Marathi people in the development of Mumbai.
"The contributions of people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are equal to that of Marathi Manush (Marathi people) in the development of Mumbai," Mahajan said at a function here.
She was addressing a function organised by BJYM to felicitate the young elected representatives of both panchayati raj and urban local bodies here.
The function was attended by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi, Bihar BJP president Nityanand Rai and a host of state ministers such as Nand Kishore Yadav, Prem Kumar, Mangal Pandey, Rana Randhir Singh, Vijay Sinha and BJYM state president and MLA Nitin Navin.
Mahajan said that she had to face the wrath of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) who pelted stones and used abusive language against her but she stood firm in her view that people residing in Bihar and Mumbai are Indians first.
She won with a record margin from her Lok Sabha constituency (Mumbai North Central) as she got the love and affection of all north Indians who voted for her in large numbers, she said.
Of the total dowry related cases in the country, 15 per cent have been reported from Bihar alone, she said while exhorting people, especially youths, to take a pledge that they would neither accept nor give dowry in marriages.
The state government should adopt it as its policy to eradicate social evil in order to bring overall development, she added.
Sushil Modi said that the NDA government at the centre gave six times more money to panchayats/urban local bodies through 14th finance commission than what the previous UPA government gave during its regime.
The NDA-led central government gave Rs 26,000 crore directly to panchayats and urban local bodies for a five year period between 2015 and 2020, Sushil Modi said.
