People in Jawhar hear mysterious loud sounds

A loud sound of high intensity similar to tremors was experienced in the predominantly tribal Jawhar at about 10 am today according to reports reaching the district headquarters.
The Jawhar police station confirmed that there was indeed a loud sound and all those in the police station were shaken by the sound.
The Additional Collector's office staff and visitors also heard the loud sound.
The Jawhar police said that people panicked and ran out of their houses.
Two years ago, similar sounds were heard from below the ground and it was confirmed that it was due to changes in the ground and not tremors.

A seismic study had ruled out tremors in the region and it was stated that the phenemenon was due to the presence of a large number of dams in the vicinity.
Such sounds were last heard during monsoon time, sources said.
