Flagging off a marathon in connection with Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh today appealed people to cooperate with the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to keep the city clean.
"The people of Jammu must cooperate with JMC in keeping the city clean, green and free from pollution", Singh said while flagging off the Jammu Marathon in connection with Swachh Bharat Abhiyan today.
He said that the week-long awareness campaign 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' that started on September 26 concluded today on Gandhi Jyanti.
"We should take pledge to keep our mind, soul and society free from impure elements and lead a happy life", Sing said.
The Jammu Marathon that started from Satwari Chowk culminated at Floriculture Park in Gandhi Nagar.
Students from various educational institutions also took part in the marathon.
The Deputy Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of JMC for organising the week-long awareness campaign and cleanliness drive in which the cooperation took an initiative to clean ten wards every day.
"This campaign should not became a symbolic campaign for one week only but we should follow the path shown to us by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bhadur Shastri, Pandit Deendayal Upadhya and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make this nation a power house", Singh said.
He said that the state government is determined to make the campaign of 'clean Jammu, green Jammu', a success and efforts are being made by JMC in this regard.
