PETA's stunning campaign against meat consumption

Ahead of the International Meatless Day on November 25, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India will protest against meat consumption in the city tomorrow.
Known for their eye-grabbing animal right campaigns, a PETA member smeared with 'blood', will lie 'dead' on a large tray covered with clear plastic to mimic a typical package of frozen meat tomorrow, a PETA release said today.
Other PETA and Just Be Friendly (JBF India) members will hold signs that read 'Meat Is Murder' to urge the public to go meat-free.
The action will take place outside the main gate of Nehru Park opposite Cotton College in Guwahati just before International Meatless Day on November 25, the release said.

PETA whose motto is 'animals are not ours to eat' wants to demonstrate that "all animals, including humans, are made of flesh, blood and bone; that we have the same senses and variety of emotions; and that eating meat is, literally, eating a corpse".
"We are challenging people to think about what 'meat' is. Eating flesh means eating the corpse of a tortured animal who did not want to die. We are encouraging people to give going vegan a try", PETA India's Neerja Khede said.

As shown in PETA India's documentary 'Glass Walls', it said animals slaughtered for meat are often crammed into vehicles in such large numbers that many are severely injured or die on way to the slaughterhouse.

"They are hit, dragged, and typically denied even the most basic necessities such as food, water and veterinary care.
"At the slaughterhouse, they are killed in view of one another and are often dismembered and skinned while they are still conscious", it said.
PETA further noted that chickens are crowded by the tens of thousands into filthy sheds that reek of ammonia fumes from the accumulated waste.
"At the slaughterhouse their throats are cut with blunt knives, often while they are still conscious", it added.
