No casualty was reported in the fire that spread from the godown located on congested Raja Rammohan Roy Sarani to its neighbouring buildings, city Mayor Sovan Chatterjee, who had visited the spot, said, adding that the residents of the neighbouring buildings were evacuated, said.
Water from a Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) reservoir in the nearby Raja Subodh Mallick Square was used by fire fighters to douse the flame, the Mayor said.
Fire Services Minister Javed Khan, who supervised the fire fighting operations, said that a forensic test would be done to ascertain the cause of the fire.
