PM appreciates Warli paintings on walls of PMAY houses

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday appreciated the tribal Warli paintings made on the walls of houses built in Thane district under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Modi interacted with PMAY beneficiaries in Maharashtra through video-conference from the temple town of Shirdi.

During the interaction, the prime minister took note of the Warli art on the walls of newly-built houses, a district official said here.

Warli painting is a style of art associated with the tribal people living in the North Sahyadri range in Maharashtra.

The paintings on the walls have given the houses a modern look, the prime minister said.

When Modi asked women beneficiaries in Thane how many of them were educated, only one raised her hand.

To this, he said, "You should ensure that your next generation gets education. The housing scheme is a fight against poverty and along with new houses you can avail health benefits under the Ayushman Bharat scheme."
