PM hopes for positive outcome from climate change summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed hope that the upcoming climate summit in Paris would yield "positive outcome" that would be equitable, balanced and guided by the principle of common but differentiated responsibility and respective capabilities.
He made the remarks while receiving French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, to whom he also conveyed condemnation over the last week's terror attacks in Paris.
While discussing the climate change issue, Modi expressed hope for a "positive outcome" from the forthcoming COP-21 (Conference of Parties) Summit that was equitable, balanced and guided by the principles and provisions of the UNFCC, especially the principle of common but differentiated responsibility and respective capabilities, a PMO statement said.

Modi, who will be attending the Summit on November 30, said it should also provide for enhanced technological, financial and capacity building support to the developing and Small Island Developing countries to enable them to take even more ambitious climate action.
He said he looked forward to launch the International Solar Alliance along with the French President Francois Hollande and other leaders during the COP-21 Summit.
Fabius appreciated the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) declared by India and stated that India would play an important role in the success of the COP-21 Summit, the statement said.

About last week's attack in Paris, Modi strongly condemned it and conveyed his deepest condolences at the loss of innocent lives in the attacks.

He reiterated the importance that India attaches to strategic partnership with France.
He recalled his visit to France earlier this year and said it has provided new vigour and momentum to the bilateral relations.
