The Pathankot terror attack took place due to "serious lapse" on part of Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi owes an explanation to people on the incident, senior Congress leader and former Defence Minister A K Antony said today.
"(The) terror attack was a result of serious lapse on the part of the Centre and the country is passing through a crisis situation," Antony said while addressing a function here.
"The BJP-led NDA government failed to prevent the attack even though it was aware of the infiltration," Antony said, adding thatModi should explain to nation why the incident took place.
He said there is a red alert due to Republic Day celebrations and people have the right to know how the attack at the IAF base, which claimed lives of seven security personnel, in Pathankot occurred.
"The country is facing a serious situation. Terrorists have infiltrated into our border. The Intelligence wing itself have said that terrorist who struck Pathankot have also moved to many places including Delhi," Antony said.
He added that Modi himself should explain how terrorists trespassed into our country within a week after he attended the birthday celebrations of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Lahore.
