"It is really surprising, but I am not surprised. But the Prime Minister, instead of making governance, corruption, the Yadav Pariwar's infighting ... The Prime Minister wants to make construction of Ram Mandir and triple talaq (as) the core issue(s) of the BJP's campaign in Uttar Pradesh," Owaisi told reporters.
Breaking his silence on the hugely contentious issue of triple talaq, Modi had yesterday denounced the practice among Muslims and deprecated attempts to politicise the issue while addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh.
"Talaq is the most disliked thing in Islam. People get separated. But, why is that Muslims are only made the target?" Owaisi said.
Why does not the NDA government take steps to give reservation to Muslims across the country if it is concerned about the welfare of Muslim women, he asked.
"Now the matter is in Supreme Court, it would have been in the fitness of things, had the Prime Minister not spoken about it. It shows BJP and the Prime Minister are short of constructive ideas, that's why they are using the (issues) of Ram Mandir and Talaq to polarise voters for the forthcoming elections in UP, Goa and Punjab elections," he said.
